ELMOTHERM®VF 500 Mafel is an insulating varnish based on modified phenolic resins, specifically developed for the impregnation of substrates such as fabrics or paper. This system is ideal for the production of materials that require subsequent heat transformation, ensuring high thermomechanical and chemical properties.
Stage technology and processing
The special feature of the ELMOTHERM® VF 500 lies in its behaviour during the drying cycle:
- stage b: after the solvent has evaporated, the paint is perfectly dry and ready to handle, remaining stable for at least 6 months at room temperature.
- stage c: through heating and pressure (hot stamping) at temperatures of 230-270°C, the material passes to the irreversible stage, acquiring its definitive shape and resistance.
- Flexibility: The resin maintains excellent flexibility even at high temperatures, facilitating the forming of complex components.
Technical specifications and performance
The features of the ELMOTHERM® VF 500 ensure superior insulation:
- dielectric strength: initial value greater than 120 kv/mm (measured at 23°C).
- thermal insulation: excellent electrical performance maintained even at high temperatures (over 80 kv/mm at 180°C).
- Chemical resistance: The product is resistant to common industrial solvents such as acetone, xylene, methanol and hexane.
- low absorption: extremely low water absorption, less than 10 mg.
Applications and usage tips
Thanks to its excellent heat formability, it is used in:
- impregnation of supports: fabrics, papers and membranes intended for cutting and shaping.
- electromechanical components: production of high-resistance shaped rigid insulators.
- Storage: Store in tightly closed original containers to preserve the 6-month shelf life of the product at stage b.
